Identifying a hardware defect and requesting a replacement
Most issues with the MagWLED-1 are firmware or configuration related and can be resolved without a replacement. The symptoms below are strong indicators of an actual hardware defect.
Symptoms that suggest a hardware defect
Dim green PWR LED with no WiFi AP
If the green PWR LED is noticeably dimmer than expected and no WLED-AP hotspot appears — even after confirming:
- A known-good USB-C PD adapter and cable are being used
- The same adapter works fine with another device or another MagWLED-1
…then the board may have a power circuit issue.
A specific GPIO not working
If the main data output (GPIO 2, WAGO terminal) doesn’t work, but the strip works when wired to a breakout GPIO (e.g. IO6 or IO7), this indicates GPIO 2 has a hardware fault. A working strip on the alternative GPIO confirms it’s not a firmware or strip problem.
Device disconnects repeatedly in a loop on USB (with correct firmware)
If the device continuously connects and disconnects from USB even after reflashing from install.magwled.com using a direct laptop connection (no hub), this may indicate a USB hardware fault.
Symptoms that are usually NOT hardware defects
| Symptom | More likely cause |
|---|---|
| No WLED-AP after power-on | Wrong firmware — see this FAQ |
| USB cycling during flash attempt | USB hub or non-PD port — try direct laptop connection |
| LEDs not lighting up | Config issue — see this FAQ |
| Wrong colors | Wrong firmware binary — see this FAQ |
Requesting a replacement
If you’ve worked through the relevant troubleshooting FAQs and believe you have a hardware defect:
- Email support@magwled.com with your order number
- Describe the symptom clearly — what you’ve tried and what outcome you got
- A photo or short video demonstrating the issue helps a lot
